open hearts and helping hands
This week at Crabbush Primary, the Hogsback heArtists volunteered time doing art with the grade 4-7's and fixing the leaky pre-school roof.
We drew pictures of things that are close to our hearts in wax crayon then painted over our drawings with food colouring mixed with water |
Thanks guys - great job! |

the ball is rolling ...
Hi Everyone,
It is cold up here in the Hogsback Mountains… and beautiful
with the snow on the peaks!
I can’t help but admire the enthusiasm for life I have seen
in the local youth while living up here; come rain or shine they are ready and
willing to meet you for a bike ride/soccer session/mission into the forest… I
am still getting used to the freezing cold mornings that spell numb fingers
(typing a little slower this morning, and smiling).
I am excited about the arrival of a dear friend from Cape
Town who is currently outlining a curricular and making samples for the Needle
Work Train-the-Trainer program. The beanies in the image are an example of her
work and also one of the things our youth will learn to make.
Today we are putting up shelves in the needle work classroom
where we will be training our youth in the arts of crochet, knitting and
sewing. We are blessed to get the morning sun and with the big fire place we
are bound to keep warm throughout the day.
We have been very blessed this week to hear from a kind
neighbour who wishes to donate wool to the project – things are moving in a
good direction and we are very grateful for the community support!
Next on the menu is raising funds for seating and storage for
the needle work classroom as well as our trainer travel, accommodation and food
costs for the duration of the 4 month program. We will also be using funds for
participant transportation, ensuring our youth arrive and leave safely and
warmly for each training session.
Please take a moment to check out our online fundraisingcampaign and if you feel the love, spread the word.
We are grateful for the support we are receiving as well the
support that is to come – we believe that together we are making a difference.
